Thai Green Papaya Salad with shrimps
A popular Thai, dish green papaya salad is called som tum, with “som” meaning “sour” and “Tum” referring to the pounding sound of the larg. This dish is one of the populer asian salad.
Serves : 4
Preparation time : 30 minutes
Assembling time : 5 minutes
Ingredients :
• 1 large green papaya
• 2 bird's-eye chillies, minced
• 3 tablespoons fish sauce
• 3 tablespoons juice from large green limes
• 100g fresh shrimps, blanched
• 8-10 cherry tomatoes or 1 large tomato, sliced
• 1 spring onion, thinly sliced
• 1 sprig coriander leaves roughly chopped
• 5 shallots, thinly sliced
• 2 tablespoons coarsely chopped peanuts
Method :
Peel the papaya, quarter it lengthwise and remove the seeds and soft centre. Grate the papaya into thin strands using a mandolin, and place in a serving bowl.
Combine fish sauce, lime juice and chillies in a small bowl and pour the mixture over the papaya.
Take 1/4 cup of the dressing and pour over the peeled and deveined shrimps, set aside.
cook your shrimps until pink and cooked through.
Add the shrimps, tomatoes, spring onion, coriander leaves and shallots, and toss well. serve garnished with peanuts.
Serve thai green papaya salad immediately with steamed rice.
